1. Lifestyles at Smith Mountain Lake |

| Smith Mountain Lake is a very large body of water, with shoreline in three separate counties. As you can imagine, some parts of the lake are going to be more conducive to certain lifestyles. You should think about what your goals are for your home at SML. Do you like to relax, watch the sunset, enjoy a peaceful boat ride; if so, make sure that your purchase is located in an area the promotes these things. On the opposite end, if you like water sports such as water skiing, wakeboarding, jet skiing, etc., you will want to make sure you are located in a part of the lake that suits those activities well. |

| The great thing about Smith Mountain Lake is that it offers the best of all of these things, and none are that far away from the other if your interests happen to change during your time here. |

| Utilities are one of those things many people take for granted. Something to keep in mind at SML is that some of the areas here are pretty rural, therefore may not offer some of the public utilities you may be accustomed to. Most drinking water is well water, although some areas do now have public lines available. TV, internet, power, telephone, etc. are other things you may want to research prior to making your purchase, to make sure you are in an area that offers services to meet your needs. | As I stated before, there are 3 separate counties with shoreline on SML. It is advisable to research what services each county offers its residents, as well as what the tax rates are. There are links to each county’s website in the “SML Area Info” page on this site. |
